Over the past 12 months, we’ve noticed a lovely little pattern emerging at Thisledo. On two separate occasions, we’ve welcomed mums who’ve travelled from overseas to Skipton to be close to their daughters at one of life’s most special moments – the arrival of a new grandchild.

Those stays have really stayed with us.

For many grandparents, flying over at such an emotional time is about being near, supportive and present – but not necessarily under the same roof. New parents need space to find their rhythm, and visiting family often appreciate having a calm, comfortable base of their own. That’s where Thisledo seems to fit beautifully.

The cottage has proved ideal for solo travellers in exactly these circumstances. It’s peaceful, cosy and private – somewhere to retreat to after an exciting (and sometimes exhausting!) day of baby cuddles. There’s space to relax with a cup of tea, catch up with friends back home, or simply enjoy a quiet night’s sleep before the next visit.

Being in Skipton also helps. You’re close enough to family to pop over easily, but with plenty on the doorstep if you fancy a stroll, a coffee in town, or a wander along the canal to clear your head. It’s a gentle, reassuring place to be during what can be a very emotional time.
