A new addition to Skipton’s food scene
66 Sheep Street describes itself as a bakery, bar and bistro, with the idea of changing character throughout the day.
The concept is simple but rather appealing: sourdough and freshly baked treats during the day, relaxed bistro dining in the evening and cocktails after dark.
The business is an independent venture and has been several years in the making, with chef Tom Rennolds behind the kitchen. Tom was runner-up on BBC’s MasterChef in 2012 and subsequently worked as an executive chef at Leeds restaurant The Heaney.
So this isn’t just another café opening its doors on Sheep Street.
It’s a new destination for food in Skipton.
What’s the story behind the name?
The location itself couldn’t be more appropriate.
Sheep Street runs right through the centre of Skipton, a town whose name is thought to derive from the Old English “sceap”, meaning sheep, and “tun”, meaning settlement or farm.
Skipton’s connection with sheep and the wool trade goes back centuries, and the town’s famous weekly markets continue to bring plenty of life to the centre.
So, while 66 Sheep Street is a very modern addition to Skipton, it’s sitting in a street with plenty of history.
From morning coffee to evening cocktails
One of the things that makes 66 Sheep Street particularly interesting is that it isn’t trying to be just one thing.

The team has already given local people a taste of what’s to come through “The Hatch”, a takeaway bakery offering coffee and freshly baked treats. The response has been impressive, with the first test openings selling out within a few hours.

Later in the day, the focus moves towards the bistro, with evening food and drinks providing a different atmosphere.
It’s the sort of place that could work equally well for a leisurely morning, a casual lunch or an evening meal.
