Sunday Sounds at The Boat House, Skipton

If you’re in Skipton on the 1st or 3rd Sunday of the month, make sure to drop by The Boat House from 2pm for their friendly and lively jamming session. Whether you’re a musician or just love good live music, it’s a brilliant way to spend a relaxed Sunday afternoon by the water.

The Boat House is a real gem tucked away by the canal — it’s accessed either through an archway from Coach Street or along the canal-side path from Skipton Boats to Coach Street Bridge. Step inside and you’ll find a light and airy bar with large picture windows overlooking the canal basin. The interior has a charming canal theme, complete with two small boats turned into lampshades and ‘capstan’-style stools that add a quirky nautical touch.

In the warmer months, the cobbled outdoor seating area is a perfect spot to sit back with a pint and watch the boats glide by. During winter, an old-style stove keeps things cosy, making it just as inviting when the temperatures drop.

Beer lovers are well looked after too — six hand pumps showcase a regularly changing line-up of ales from local breweries and further afield, with at least one dark beer usually available. The sixth pump is often put to mixed use, adding to the variety. There’s also a good selection of ciders and craft keg beers to choose from. (As of July 2022, note that a £5 minimum card payment applies.)

It’s the kind of place where locals, visitors, and musicians mix easily — full of character, good beer, and even better company.

If you’re staying at Thisledo Holiday Cottage, The Boat House is just a short stroll away — the perfect Sunday afternoon outing before a peaceful evening back at your home-from-home.

Why Stay in a Shoebox When You Can Have a Whole Cottage?

It seems Skipton is going compact. A new wave of one-bedroom “luxury” compact apartments have arrived. Some are about the size of a decent double garage… or, if we’re honest, a walk-in wardrobe in some parts of the Dales.

Now, let’s compare that to Thisledo Holiday Cottage. Our traditional stone cottage in the heart of Skipton offers space to stretch out, unwind, and actually breathe.

So, what do you get with all that extra room?

🛋️ Room to relax

At Thisledo, you don’t perch on a sofa that doubles as a bed and a breakfast table. You’ve got a real living room, with a comfy sofa, a proper fireplace, and space to put your feet up — without elbowing your partner in the ribs.

🍳 A kitchen that actually fits a cook

Our fully equipped kitchen isn’t squeezed into a corner behind a sliding door. You can actually cook in it — and enjoy your meal at a proper dining table instead of balancing it on your lap while trying not to spill sauce on the carpet.

🛏️ A bedroom that feels like a retreat

In some compact apartments, the bed often folds into the wall. At Thisledo, you get a full-sized, beautifully dressed bed, with room to walk around it, unpack your bags, and not have to store your suitcase in the shower.

🐾 Space for your four-legged friend

And let’s not forget — Thisledo is dog-friendly. Try fitting your Labrador (or even your spaniel) into a “boutique studio” and see how long it takes before everyone’s tail gets trodden on.

🌿 Outdoors without the squeeze

We’re a short stroll from Skipton’s canal walks, the castle, and all the charm of the town centre. So you can enjoy the buzz — and still come home to space, peace, and privacy.

The bottom line

If you’re happy living out of a suitcase in a shoebox, those new apartments might be for you.
But if you’d rather have a whole cottage to yourself — full of warmth, character, and elbow room — Thisledo Holiday Cottage is waiting to welcome you.

Because when it comes to your Skipton stay, size absolutely does matter.

✨ Your Skipton, Inside the Magic

There’s a certain sparkle in the air around Skipton at the moment — and it’s not just the autumn leaves turning gold. Rumours are swirling faster than a broomstick in a Quidditch final: Skipton is getting a touch of Harry Potter magic.

That’s right — our friendly Yorkshire market town has found itself under the spell of film crews, scaffolding, and plenty of speculation. Local chatter suggests that something very magical is being filmed right here on our streets. Could it be the new Harry Potter series everyone’s talking about? No one’s saying for sure (and perhaps a little “Muffliato” charm has been cast to keep things quiet), but the excitement is real.

🎥 Magic in the Dales

Of course, the Yorkshire Dales already have strong Potter connections. Just a short drive from Skipton lies Malham Cove, the dramatic limestone formation where Harry and Hermione camped out in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. If you’ve ever wandered along that epic rock pavement, you’ll recognise the scene instantly — it’s pure wizarding countryside.

Now, with filming happening right in Skipton itself, you could say our corner of Yorkshire has officially joined the map of magical movie locations.

🏡 Stay Where the Magic Happens

If you’re planning a trip to see what all the fuss is about (or just hoping to spot a wand or two), Thisledo Holiday Cottage is the perfect base. Nestled in the heart of Skipton, our cosy stone cottage offers all the comforts of home — and just maybe, a bit of Hogwarts-level charm.

Wander from our doorstep to the famous market, climb up to Skipton Castle (no moving staircases, but it’s still wonderfully medieval), or take a drive over to Malham Cove for your own spellbinding adventure.

And when you return, you can curl up by the fire, pour a Butterbeer (or something stronger), and plan your next magical day out.

🐾 Dogs Welcome — Even the Four-Legged Kind

At Thisledo, dogs are welcome too — whether they answer to “Rover” or “Padfoot.” After all, a Yorkshire break is best enjoyed with a loyal companion, magical or otherwise.

✨ Discover Skipton’s Magic for Yourself

So, whether you’re a film buff, a Potter fan, or just someone who loves the idea of a little everyday magic, now’s the perfect time to visit Skipton.

Why You Should Choose to Stay at Thisledo for a Midweek Business Trip

Business trips don’t have to mean beige hotel rooms, instant coffee sachets, and that mysterious humming sound coming from the air conditioning unit. If you find yourself heading to Skipton during the week, there’s a far more civilised way to combine business with a touch of pleasure: stay at Thisledo Holiday Cottage.

Nestled right in the heart of Skipton — just a short stroll from the High Street — Thisledo offers the perfect home-from-home for the midweek traveller who prefers their own front door and a bit of peace and quiet after a busy day.

1. Work-Friendly Comforts (Without the Corporate Vibe)

Let’s face it — after a day of meetings or site visits, you don’t want to be tapping away on a wobbly desk in a hotel lobby while someone’s latte froth lands on your laptop. At Thisledo, you can spread out at the dining table, make yourself a proper brew, and actually get things done — all while wearing slippers if you fancy.

There’s fast Wi-Fi, plenty of space to set up your laptop, and a cosy living room where you can switch seamlessly from spreadsheets to Netflix.

2. Midweek Rates That Make Sense

Why pay weekend prices when you can enjoy all the same comfort midweek — often at a better rate? Business travellers love the flexibility of staying Monday to Thursday, with no crowds, no queues, and a bit more calm around town. You’ll even find parking easier, and getting a table at your favourite restaurant is suddenly effortless.

3. Central Location, Easy Commute

Skipton is perfectly placed for meetings across Yorkshire and Lancashire, with excellent transport links by road and rail. Whether you’re visiting clients in Leeds, heading over to Harrogate, or attending a training course nearby, you’ll be back at Thisledo in no time — ready to unwind.

And because the cottage is right in Skipton town centre, you can pop out for dinner, pick up supplies, or just enjoy a quiet walk by the canal without needing to drive anywhere.

4. Proper Rest, Proper Privacy

Hotels have their place, but they also have noisy corridors, early morning cleaning trolleys, and the occasional fire alarm at 6am. At Thisledo, it’s just you, the sound of the church clock tower in the distance, and maybe a friendly woof from the occasional passing dog. (Yes — dogs are welcome here too, in case your four-legged assistant comes along.)

5. Because You Deserve a Bit of Dales Charm

Even on a business trip, it’s nice to feel like you’ve actually been somewhere. Skipton is known as the “Gateway to the Dales,” and Thisledo gives you the best of both worlds — easy access to town for work, and countryside views just minutes away.

Grab a takeaway from one of Skipton’s excellent restaurants, unwind by the fire, and remind yourself that business travel doesn’t have to be bland.

So, Why Thisledo?

Because business trips should feel less like work and more like a midweek escape with Wi-Fi.

Book your midweek stay at Thisledo Holiday Cottage, Skipton, and discover how productive (and relaxing) working away can really be.

Escape to Skipton Before the Budget

If there’s one thing the November Budget teaches us every year, it’s this: the safest place to be is somewhere quiet, scenic, and far away from anyone saying the words “fiscal tightening.” Enter Skipton — the Gateway to the Dales and, conveniently, the perfect spot for a pre-Budget break at Thisledo Holiday Cottage.

Because while the Chancellor is polishing her red box, you could be polishing off a full English in peace.

🏡 A Pre-Budget Strategy That Actually Makes Sense

Some people invest in gold, others in government bonds. The truly wise invest in a few days of Yorkshire calm.
At Thisledo Holiday Cottage, you can do what economists only dream of — balance your emotional books.
The Wi-Fi’s strong enough for streaming, weak enough to discourage doomscrolling. And the sofa? Perfect for financial reflection, ideally with a slice of parkin and a dog at your feet.

Let the markets fluctuate. You’ve got slippers.

💷 Ways to Outsmart the Budget

  1. Stay before the Chancellor speaks.
Prices haven’t had time to react to “the measures,” and neither have you.
  2. Bring your own snacks.
That’s what the fridge is for — and besides, homemade sandwiches are VAT-free.
  3. Walk it off.
Skipton’s canal paths and the trails at Bolton Abbey are ideal for pondering complex matters like whether to have gravy or mushy peas later.
  4. Practice your own Budget speech.
“This year, we’re increasing happiness spending by 100% and cutting the cost of stress to zero.” (Applause from the dog.)

☕ The Skipton Way to Cope with Fiscal Policy

While the rest of the country nervously analyses spreadsheets, you can sip tea in a café overlooking the Leeds–Liverpool Canal. The ducks don’t care about inflation, and neither, for one blissful weekend, should you.

Pop into Robertshaws Farm Shop for some comfort supplies, wander around Skipton Market pretending you’re on a lifestyle show, and remind yourself that true wealth is measured in how slowly you stir your hot chocolate.

🐾 Sensible Economics: Bring the Dog

Dogs, famously, don’t follow budgets. They live in the now — and the now, at Thisledo Holiday Cottage, smells faintly of fresh linen and distant moorland. Walks in the Dales are still free (for now), and every pawprint on a Skipton path counts as a small investment in joy.

🕯 In Conclusion: Spend Wisely, Stay Cosily

Whatever the Chancellor announces, the best financial advice this autumn is simple:
Book a few nights at Thisledo Holiday Cottage before the Budget lands.
Enjoy the peace before the forecasts, the calm before the commentary, and the simple pleasure of knowing your biggest decision of the week is whether to open a bottle of wine or just have another brew.

Because some things — like crisp Yorkshire air, roaring fires, and a good laugh at the news — are still tax-free.
