Sunday Sounds at The Boat House, Skipton

If you’re in Skipton on the 1st or 3rd Sunday of the month, make sure to drop by The Boat House from 2pm for their friendly and lively jamming session. Whether you’re a musician or just love good live music, it’s a brilliant way to spend a relaxed Sunday afternoon by the water.

The Boat House is a real gem tucked away by the canal — it’s accessed either through an archway from Coach Street or along the canal-side path from Skipton Boats to Coach Street Bridge. Step inside and you’ll find a light and airy bar with large picture windows overlooking the canal basin. The interior has a charming canal theme, complete with two small boats turned into lampshades and ‘capstan’-style stools that add a quirky nautical touch.

In the warmer months, the cobbled outdoor seating area is a perfect spot to sit back with a pint and watch the boats glide by. During winter, an old-style stove keeps things cosy, making it just as inviting when the temperatures drop.

Beer lovers are well looked after too — six hand pumps showcase a regularly changing line-up of ales from local breweries and further afield, with at least one dark beer usually available. The sixth pump is often put to mixed use, adding to the variety. There’s also a good selection of ciders and craft keg beers to choose from. (As of July 2022, note that a £5 minimum card payment applies.)

It’s the kind of place where locals, visitors, and musicians mix easily — full of character, good beer, and even better company.

If you’re staying at Thisledo Holiday Cottage, The Boat House is just a short stroll away — the perfect Sunday afternoon outing before a peaceful evening back at your home-from-home.
