Yorkshire Day in Skipton – The Perfect Time to Celebrate God’s Own County

If you’re staying at Thisledo Holiday Cottage at the beginning of August, you’re in for a real Yorkshire treat.

Every year on 1st August, Yorkshire comes together to celebrate everything that makes England’s largest county so special. And there’s nowhere better to join the festivities than Skipton, the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales.

Whether you’re a proud Yorkshire local or visiting for the first time, Yorkshire Day is a wonderful opportunity to experience the warmth, humour and traditions that make this county so unique.

What is Yorkshire Day?

Yorkshire Day has been celebrated since 1975 and is a chance to recognise Yorkshire’s rich history, breathtaking landscapes and proud heritage. Expect plenty of friendly rivalry with Lancashire, lots of white roses, Yorkshire puddings, brass bands and a healthy dose of Yorkshire humour!

You’ll quickly discover that Yorkshire folk are fiercely proud of where they come from—and visitors are always welcomed with genuine Yorkshire hospitality.

Yorkshire Day Celebrations in Skipton

The heart of the celebrations takes place at Skipton Canal Basin, just a pleasant 10-minute walk from Thisledo Holiday Cottage.

Throughout the day you’ll find:

  • Live music
  • Morris dancers
  • Family entertainment
  • Traditional games
  • Arts and crafts
  • Local food and drink stalls
  • Yorkshire-themed activities
  • Crazy golf and giant games
  • Street performers and circus entertainment

This year’s celebrations also include a petting zoo, surf simulator and live music continuing into the evening, making it one of Skipton’s biggest summer events. The free festival runs from 10am until around 7pm.

Experience Yorkshire at its Best

One of the joys of Yorkshire Day is simply soaking up the atmosphere.
