All Creatures Great & Small
8th October 2022
The Channel 5 remake of the classic James Herriot series is filmed in the Yorkshire Dales, mainly in the village of Grassington and the surrounding contryside.
The panoramic views of the Dales shown in the programme cannot fail to impress and draw people to Grassington to holiday, walk and explore the Yorskhure Dales National Park.
Thisledo Holiday Cottage of course is located in Skipton not Grassington but the cottage still makes a good location to explore Herriot country ( well the TV Herriot Country ). The drive from Skipton to Grassington takes around 20 minutes and is also well served with a bus service from Skipton Bus Station.

He’s having the best holiday ever!!
23rd September 2022
Who’s he you ask?
He is the four legged companion who joined a recent couple of guests on their journey from Holland to stay at our holiday cottage in Skipton for a week in September.
Besides the delights of Yorkshire and staying in dog friendly accommodation, the couple messaged to say that their dog was having the time of life in Aireville Park. The open grassland of the park which is just a few minutes walk away from the cottage is a dog friendly area where dogs are allowed off lead to explore and run off their energy. So delighted where the couple that they suggested we amend the decription of our cottage to make it clear there is such a pet friendly park so close to the cottage. It’s something that we will look do.
Skipton or its surrounding villages
17th September 2022
Visitors to Skipton have a wide choice of self catered properties from which to choose with Holiday Cottage accommodation available for all budgets.
One choice you will have to make is whether to stay in Skipton itself or one of Skipton’s surrounding villages such as Embsay, Carleton, Bradley, Draughton, etc. Each location has its pros and cons and it very much depends on personal preference where to stay.
Holiday cottages such as Thisledo which are located in Skipton offer quick access on foot to the many restuarants, bars, shops, market and other attractions which the town has to offer. You don’t have to worry about drinking and driving as you can walk to and from the bars and restaurants in the evening.
If you are staying in one of Skipton surrounding villages then a visit to the town centre will probably involve a car journey or a taxi unless you are feeling energetic and want to walk which will take around 30 minutes from villages such as Embsay & Carleton. Most of the villages have a local pub and a village shop.
Whichever location you choose, you’re sure to have a good time. Enjoy

Hit Air Ballooning – the best way to see Skipton & the Dales
28th August 2022
During the August Bank Holiday, our spaniel decided to wake up early for her morning walk, so by 8.30am we were well on our way to the top of Embsay Crag. It was a beautiful clear day with blue skies and just about the level of warmth I enjoy on a summers day.
As we approached the Crag summit, a Hot Air Balloon came sailing around the face of the Crag – what fantastic views they must have had of the Dales. The balloon glided by heading towards Wharfedale and Bolton Abbey.
I’ve never done Hot Air Ballooning, but it’s on my bucket list. If it something you would like to do whilst staying at our cottage, Airborne Adventures has been providng balloon flights to locals and visitors to Skipton for more years than I can remember. Why not book a flight during your holiday?
Of course, the Yorkshire Dales being the Yorkshire Dales , the weather cannot be guaranteed and cloud cover may spoil your views but won’t lessen the excitement.
Is your holiday cottage dog friendly?
26th August 2022
In three words, ‘ Yes it is!’
Thisledo Holiday Cottage in Skipton has always welcomed dogs and their owners, after all dogs need a holiday just as much as Humans!
The cottage has small but secure yard areas at both the front and rear of the cottage. Thisledo is only a few minutes walk away from Aireville Park which is ideal for exercising your dog. Many of the restuarants, cafes and bars in Skipton welcome dogs, so you can all walk into the town centre in the evening, at lunch time, even for breakfast to find something to eat and drink. Fed and watered you then have all the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales to explore throughout the days with your four legged companion.
