Merry Christmas to all our guests

Shelley & Steve Green of Thisledo Holiday Cottage would like to wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all their guests who have stayed at their very popular holiday cottage in Skipton.

2022 has seen holiday cottage businesses move back to their normal operation after the last couple of years operating within Covid-19 guidance. Commenting on the year , Steve Green said’ it has been great to welcome guests back to stay at our cottage to enjoy Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales without the Covid-19 restrictions. Bookings have been very good throughout the year and we are looking forward to 2023 to continue welcoming new and regular guests to stay.’

Coming in 2023

Each year, we like to reinvest in the holiday cottage to improve our Guest experience of the cottage, Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales.

During January 2023, the holiday cottage will be closed whilst we give the kitchen a small makeover including new lighting, wall tiles and redecoration.

We will also be launching a digital guest welcome book using Touchstay. We stayed in a holiday cottage in Northumbria recently and that holiday cottage provided a digital guidebook which we found extremely useful and informative. As well as information about the cottage, it also included useful advice on the local areas along with instruction sfor arrival and departure. All available in a easy to use up to date digital format. We are sure future guests to Thisledo will find it very useful

Pet Friendly Holiday Cottage for Two in Skipton

STOP – You’ve found it, this is the holiday cottage for two people and your four legged friend to stay in Skipton.

Thisledo Holiday Cottage has been welcoming guests for over 20 years to visit Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales.

Over the years, Skipton has seen a huge increase in holiday cottage accommodation from small cottages for two through to large properties for family reunions of 20+ people. Skipton makes a great holiday destination for both week breaks and long weekends. With plenty of bars and restaurants catering to all tastes in the town centre and the Yorkshire Dales to explore during the day, it is a destination favoured by all generations.

Thisledo Holiday Cottage provides comfortable high quality accommodation for two people, it is pet friendly and is located in a quiet about five minutes walk from the toen centre.

Bookings can be made at Thisledo.co.uk or through partner websites including booking.com, Airbnb, VRBO and Holiday Lettings.

Holiday Cottage Photographs

Over the years our Holiday Cottage photographs have been taken by ourselves using our phones. Whilst the quality of our photographs has been reasonable, they have always lacked that professional look.

So for 2022, after completing a major refurbishment of the cottage, we engaged the services of a local Skipton photographer, Amy Pitfield to take a portfolio of cottage photgraphs.

To say we were delighted with the results would be an understatement! The difference between professional photographs and mobile phone photographs is huge and well worth the investment.

We now have great photographs of the cottage to use on the Thisledo website and our partner websites; Airbnb, Booking.com, Holiday Lettings and VRBO.

It may be a coincidence, but our 2022 booking have been up on previous years and we already have many bookings for 2023.

Thanks Amy

Thisledo Holiday Cottage Parking

A frequent question which we are asked is ‘does the cottage have parking?’

For a variety of reasons, some people prefer accommodation which has its own parking space and whilst there are some holiday cottages in Skipton which have parking, most do not.

We are sorry to stay that Thisledo does not have its own parking space but there is plenty of street parking very close by. There is not a resident parking permit scheme, so guests do not have to worry about parking and then returning to their car to find a parking ticket!

Short stay parking of 20 minutes is available within a few yards at the front of the cottage for loading and unloading your car on arrival and departure days.

When we clean the cottage we park on Gainsborough Court and we recommend that location for parking as it is less than two minutes walk away from the cottage.

Some guests prefer to use Coach Street Car Park which is run by the local Council and where weekly parking permits can be purchased at £15 per week. This car park is less than a five minute walk from the cottage and is located in the town centre.

In the 20+ years in which Thisledo Holiday Cottage has been welcoming guests, nobody has ever mentioned car parking being a problem, as they can always find a space somewhere close by.

Travel down the Aire Valley from Skipton to Keighley and you will find the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

Venture over the border into Lancashire and you can experience a journey of the East Lancashire heritage trains.

Then for the ultimate day out journey to York to visit the National Railway Museum

Is Skipton a good base for exploring North Yorkshire?

Skipton does make a good base for a holiday, not only for exploring the scenic Yorkshire Dales but also for visiting many other tourist destinations within the county and maybe even some in Lancashire!

Instead of the coutryside you might decide to visit some of the Yorkshire Towns below:-

Harrogate is an 18 mile drive which takes about 40 minutes, York is 38 miles away and that journey takes around 90 minutes. If you want to visit Leeds or Bradford, then take the train from Skipton direct to the town cebtre of both cities.

Yorkshire also has a historial seaside coast on the North Sea. Places to visit include Scarborough, Filey and Whitby and the car journey takes between 2.5 to 3 hours. It can be a frustrating drive as most of the journey is A roads with an occasional few miles of dual carriageway.

Despite being the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, Skipton is only a few miles from the Lancashire border. If you are brave enough to journey over the border to the dark side, then we would recommend taking the A59 from Skipton towards Preston. It is a wonderful drive and so picturesque but just be wary of the mobile speed cameras. If you want to visit Manchester, we would recommend driving, it takes around 90 minutes to the City Centre. Going by train is a nightmare as there is no direct route. There is a good public bus service to Lancashire from Skipton know as the Witch Way

Don’t forget that Skipton itself has plenty to offer, from exploring Skipton Castle, to shopping at the Market and canal boat trips, three popular activities with our holiday cottage guests.

I must be dreaming there are thousands of Santas running around Skipton!

Whilst the people of Skipton are now used to the Annual Santa Fun Run which has taken place each year since 2010, it can come as something of a surprise to visitors to the town as they stroll about the town centre on a Sunday morning in search of a morning coffee.

The 2022 Santa run takes place on Sunday 27th November starting at 11am on the High Street and finishing when the last Santa crosses the finish line on the High Street several hours later.

Thisledo Holiday Cottage guests can of course take part, you just need to register on the website below or you can just go along, watch the fun and cheer on the runners who ages range from children upwards.

Where to visit around Skipton

This is the first in series of posts about places to visit whilst staying in Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales.

Malham Cove needs to be somewhere near the top of your list. This magnificient limestone cliff is 260 feet high and is very popular with visitors to the Yorkshire Dales.

From Thisledo Holiday Cottage in Skipton the drive of 11 miles takes around 30 minutes. There is a car park in the village from where you need to walk to the Cove as there is no close vehicle access. Malham has two very good pubs, The Lister Arms and The Buck Inn which do lunches and serve great beer. There are also several cafes and shops.

Malham Cove has featured in various TV programmes and filsm including the Harry Potter films.

Various websites provide information on Malham Cove, here is a selection.
