We love self-catering holidays and have stayed in holiday cottages and apartments in the United Kingdom and Europe, but we often come across a constant frustration.
What’s that you ask?
You have paid several hundred pounds for the accommodation and arrive at the holiday property to find Welcome Gifts ranging from a bottle of Prosecco to freshly baked cakes. Frustratingly you then discover some basic household items are missing or limited in supply.
We’re talking about those accommodations which only provide one toilet roll, one bin bag, a dishcloth, strictly counted out dishwater tablets, one for each day of your stay and similar generosity of household essentials.
It’s a real bug bear when you must then go shopping for more household supplies to supplement the provided amounts. Especially as they cost a tiny fraction of the income you have provided to the holiday property owner for your stay.
At Thisledo Holiday Cottage, we provide ample supplies of household items, including kitchen roll, tin foil, sandwich bags. Then you don’t have to spend time during your holiday venturing to the supermarket for more supplies. Instead, you can get on with enjoying Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales.

Walking in the Yorkshire Dales is both enjoyable and tiring, so here’s suggestion if you want to take it easy for a day during your holiday in Skipton.
Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway is certainly worth visiting. There are tea rooms at both Bolton Abbey and Embsay and plenty of parking. There are also gift shops and picnic areas. Embsay railway also has a good bookshop.
By car, Embsay is just over five minutes away from the Thisledo Holiday Cottage and if you want to walk there it will take around half an hour.
Cosy Winter Holiday Cottage

Being warm and cosy and settling down with a well earned drink after a cold winters day walk in the Yorkshire Dales is something our guests enjoy.
The cottage has a central heating system powered by a Rayburn Gas Oven/Boiler. This makes it a very snug place to stay.
The cottage can be booked between October and April for a minimum of three night stays. Stays can start on any day of the week.

When we first opened Thisledo Holiday Cottage in 2002, we were the only holiday cottage on Woodman Terrace in Skipton.

In the height of summer, with long days, lots of sunshine and time outside, it’s easy to forget the dark dismal days of autumn and winter.
