2014 has been a very popular year for visitors to Thisledo Holiday Cottage in Skipton. The cottage has been open for business for over 10 years & the owners believe this has been their best year yet. Improvements to the cottage, which is based in Skipton, the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales during 2014 have included a full bathroom refurbishment and the provision of free WIFI. Further improvements are planned for 2015 and booking can now be made on line through Holiday Lettings or direct with the owners by calling 01756 795024.

Spring saw the grand opening of a new shopping area in Skipton just behind the Town Hall & accessed off the top of the High Street via Jerry Croft.
The development includes a Pizza Express Restaurant, a flagship Chevin Cycles Store, a relocated Next , Dawsons Department Store, and other larger retailers which have been mising from Skipton for years.
Bring your plastic and enjoy your shopping. Husbands can be left in one of the local pubs such as The Albion, The Castle, The Red Lion of the Black Horse!!
Summer Returns to the Yorkshire Dales

Guest arriving at Thisledo Holiday Cottage on Saturday 17 May will find Skipton bathed in warm sunshine and blue skies. Probably the best day of the year so far, Skipton was preparing itself for a busy weekend as tourists arrive in the Yorkshire Dales town.
On a hot day, Thisledo is ideally placd to walk into Skipton Town Centre to enjoy a relaxing pint of real ale or a refreshing glass of wine. Many of the local pubs, the nearest is only a few minutes walk from the cottage, have outside areas where you can sit, relax and watch the world go by.

Tour De France – Le Grand Depart – Skipton & The Yorkshire Dales

If you visting Skipton to watch the spectacle of some of the stages of the Tour De France taking place in and around Skipton at the start of July 2014, the following resources might help plan your visit:

- Le Tour Yorkshire – The official website for the Le Grand Depart of the Tour De France in Yorkshire.
- Craven District Council – Skipton’s local council website containing information about Le Tour
- Le Petite Depart – on the 1st June, you can take part in the first stage of Le Tour with a choice of two routes – the recreational ride (33 miles) and the sportive ride (78 miles).
Most, if not all of the local holiday cottages, hotel and Bed & Breakfast places are fully booked, but there are lots of pop up camping sites that will be opening to accommodate the thousands of visitors to the area. Here’s a couple of suggestions:-
Skipton Waterways Festival

The annual Skipton Waterway Festival being held on the May Day Bank Holiday Weekend is only minutes away from Thisledo Holiday Cottage.
Of course, the theme for this years Festival had to be the Tour De France with the Le Grand Depart taking place in and around Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales in early July.

Skipton Little Theatre

It may not have the grandeur of theatres in Leeds or Bradford, but Skipton’s Lille Theatre offers a great night out. Their productions take place around every two months and each play usually does a run of week.

Skipton Holiday Cottage Gets a New Bathroom
30th March 2014
March 2014 saw the existing bathroom at Thisledo Holiday Cottage taken out and a new large shower installed, along with other bathroom fittings.
The comment most guests provide about how could the cottage be improved was that a shower rather than a bath would be preferrable.The new bathroom facilities were finished in March, just in time for the spring and summer season.
Holiday in the Best Place To Live in the United Kingdom

According to a survey by the Sunday Times, Skipton is the number one place to live in the United Kingdom in 2014, The Sunday Times 101 Best Places to Live in Britain named the market town of Skipton as the outright winner in their survey.
The reasons for Skipton’s winning position is due to the low crime rates, top class schools, good transport links, reasonably priced property, the bustling High Street and of course the surrounding contryside.
Over the years,Thisledo Holiday Cottage has had a number of visitors who have rented the cottage for a week whilst they searched for properties to buy in the area. A number of people who were born or lived in Skipton have also used the cottage as a base whilst they explore their roots and link up with family and friends.

In those days, we were prehaps one of only a handful of websites advertising a Holiday Cottage in Skipton. Over the last 10 years, this has changed dramatically & now most holiday cottages in Skipton have their own website or advertsie on the web through websites like Holiday Lettings or Sykes Cottages.
