Locals say that if the cows are seen paddling in the river during the autumn that it’s a sign the following summer will be hot and sunny.
Well on our last visit to Bolton Abbey, the cows were in the River Wharfe up to their ankles! Fingers crossed 2014 brings as good weather as visitors to Thisledo Holiday Cottage in Skipton enjoyed this year.

Over the years, we have had a number of visitors who turn out to be ex-skipton people coming back to explore their roots, visit old friends & to see how skipton has changed over the years. We have even had people from as far away as Australia visit.

Wait for it….
The award goes to the County of Yorkshire!!
Yorkshire won the title of Europe’s Leading Destination in 2013 which was awarded at the World Travel Awards in Antalya, Turkey.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said the award was a “real validation” of the efforts put in by the county’s tourism industry.
“It’s fantastic to see Yorkshire taking its rightful place as one of the top holiday destinations in Europe,” said Mr Verity.

The 2013 holiday season has proved to be very successful for Thisledo Holiday Cottage which is based in Skipton, the Gateway to The Yorkshire Dales.
Shelley & Steve Green have owned Thisledo Holiday Cottage and run it as a self catered holiday cottage since 2003. The cottage which sleeps two, is very popular being located in skipton just a few minutes walk down Gargrave Road into the town centre.
In 2012, the level of bookings for the cottage declined slightly leading to a complete rethink of the marketing stategy for the cottage. Two main initiavtives were the complete redesign of the holiday cottage website and advertsing on Holiday Lettings and ceasing all other forms of advertsing. This proved to be a wise decision with booking for 2013 being way ahead of previous years. Infact, there are only three weeks still available for this season and details can be found here.

Thisledo Holiday Cottage is ideally located to enable you to take part in the 4 days of celebration relating to Yorkshire Day which this year is being hosted in Skipton.
From Thursday 1st August until Sunday 4th August, you will be able to take part and watch the various events. These include a Civic Parade on Thursday, an Urban Beach in the Canal Basin on Friday, Englis Civil War Re-enactments on Saturday & the Festival of Yorkshire on Sunday.

What a summer!
2013 is proving to be the best summer we have had for some time especially in Skipton which for the last few years seems to have spent summer under a blanket of cloud and rain.
One of the first things, new arrivals at Thisledo holiday Cottage have been doing is walking into town for a well earned drink after their journey to the Yorkshire Dales.
Located only a few minutes walk from the Town Centre, the many drinking holes of Skipton are all within easy reach. The closest and most popular is probably the Castle Pub which is always busy outside on a hot and sunny day with drinkers enjoying themselves and watching the world go by. The Black Hourse, The Rose & Crown, The Red Lion are all close by and have areas to set outside and enjoy the weather and to make a toast to your holid in the Yorkshire Dales.

If you are planning a holiday in the Yorkshire Dales and want to discover waht going on in the locality, one of the ways you can do this is to visit the website of the local weekly newspaper, the Craven Herald.
The Craven Herald was first published in 1853 and was until 2009, one of the remaining newspapers whose front cover was purely adverts. That’s all changed now, along with a switch to tabloid size paper. Nevertheless, it remains a good source of local news for Skipton and the surrounding areas; it even covers some of the going ons over the border in Lancashire!!

Fans of Coronation Street will know that David & Kylie are heading off to a Holiday Cottage in Skipton this week.
Rumours are that the filming will take place in and around Skipton & the Yorkshire Dales as the storyline develops and David discovers that his brother Nick maybe the father of his baby!!
Will Thisledo Holiday Cottage be the venue for all the action – well we can’t say!! You’ll just have to watch Coronation Street this week.
