Indian Restaurants in Skipton

So, you’ve dined out at the numerous eating establishments in Skipton over the last few nights, but now fancy something a little different; How about an Indian?

Skipton has a great selection of Indian restaurants, most are within walking distant to the holiday cottage, so you can enjoy a glass of beer or wine with your meal.

Walking Into Town – Part 1

Thisledo Holiday Cottage is very located in an ideal location to walk into the town centre.This makes it a good base, enabling you to explore the Yorkshire Dales during the day and then to walk into town for a meal or a drink, or both in the many bars and restaurants located in the town centre.

It’s around a five minute walk along Gargarve Road before you reach the first restaurants and bars on Water Street. Here you will find Kongs Chinese  Restaurant & Calico Jack Restaurant & Bar.

Taking a right at the small roundabout will take you down Coach Street and into the hub of the town centre. Go over the canal bridge and take the second right to reach Oakleys Bar & Grill.

Well that’s three eating establishments all within a few minutes walk. We’ll carry on with our eating and drinking guide in future blogs.

Olympic Torch In SkiptonThe Olympic torch arrives in Skipton on Sunday 24 June 2012, here’s the timeline:-

From 3pm – Advance Sponsorship vehicles, Samsung, Coca Cola and Lloyds TSB arrive to entertain the crowds

Approx 3:45 – Activation convoy together with sponsorship vehicles passes through the Olympic Torch Route to check the route is clear and there are no dangers. The sponsors will also be distributing give away items to the crowd lining the route – but only on the nearside of the road. The activation convoy has been mistaken for the actual Olympic Torch Convoy elsewhere in the country so be warned!

4:05pm – Olympic Torch Convoy with first torchbearers begins at Farm Croft, Keighley Road (opposite Horse Close Bridge)

4:19pm – Arrives at Skipton High Street

4:23pm – Turns into Newmarket Street

4:29 – Torch turns left at the mini roundabout onto Otley Road

4:30pm – Olympic Torch Convoy end of last Skipton Torchbearers leg at Princes Crescent junction with Otley Road

4:33 – Convoy leaves Skipton

Skipton Gala – 9th June 2012

It’s very overcast in Skipton today & threatening to rain, which can only mean one thing – it must be Skipton Gala Day.

This year, the gala is being opened by Skipton resident Martyn Croft – AKA the Dalek man from Britain’s Got Talent.

Thomas & Friends – Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway

Calling all Steam Enthusiasts, if you are staying in the Yorkshire Dales, why not call in and visit the steam railway at Embsay & Bolton Abbey.

Your journey takes you through picturesque Yorkshire Dales scenery. Bolton Abbey station is the ideal stopping off point for a pleasant one and a half mile walk to the ruins of the 12th Century priory.

Copper Dragon Brewery, Skipton

Fancy a pint whilst you are staying in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales?

Many of the Dales Pubs sell various cask ales and bottle beers from the Copper Dragon Brewery which is based in Skipton, but did you know you can also visit the brewery?

Why not go along and do the Brewery Tour and visit their visitors centre. There is also a fantastic value for money Bistro. This offers high quality traditional food served in a relaxed, informal setting.

Theatre in the Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales is full of surprises and they don’t come much bigger than The Mart Theatre at Skipton auction Market.

By day, the venue is the Dales leading cattle market, but at night things change and the venue turns into a memorable theatre venue.

On 2nd June, if you are staying in Skipton, why not go along to see the Bon Jovi Experience, or go and see Phil Jupiter on the 28th July.

Queens Diamond Jubliee Celebrations 3rd June 2012

If you’re staying at our holiday cottage or anywhere in Skipton on Sunday 3rd June, you might want to join in the Queens Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

Skipton High Street will be closed to host a giant street party.

Fun events will be held during the day including the showing of two family movies, the Lion King & Mamma Mia. Plus live bands, a fairground, stalls, food and a licensed bar.

The fun start at 10am and goes through to 10pm.
